Over seven extraordinary adventures, Delvin & Grace journeyed across the ancient Celtic landscapes of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, England, Cornwall, the Isle of Man, and Brittany, seeking out some of the most remarkable and pilgrimage-worthy sacred megalithic sites they could find. Some of these adventures were shared with Maddy Harland who had already been travelling to these sacred sites for decades. 

 

From remote stone circles and ancient monuments to wild landscapes steeped in myth and memory, they followed the stones as portals into a deeper relationship with place, ancestry, and the living Earth. 

Explorers of the Stones: Pilgrimage, Ceremony and Sacred Design, invites readers to experience these ancient places not simply as archaeological wonders, but as landscapes of beauty, mystery, ceremony, and connection.

The journey is a natural extension of the life and work Delvin and Grace have built together. Delvin is a lifelong permaculture student and educator who has studied with many of the pioneers of the movement, including Bill Mollison, David Holmgren, Geoff Lawton, Robin Clayfield, Rosemary Morrow, and Looby Macnamara. He has taught thousands of people, helped create community learning gardens, developed open-source educational resources, and continues to explore how learning, creativity, and ecological design can transform communities.

Grace brings an equally grounded and adventurous perspective. Raised on a small family farm, she has spent a lifetime immersed in animal husbandry, homesteading, gardening, herbalism, natural building, food preservation, and regenerative land practices. Her work with heritage animals and plant medicine gives her a particularly practical relationship with the natural world and a deep appreciation for the traditional knowledge embedded in landscapes.

Joining Delvin and Grace as co-author is Maddy Harland, one of the most influential voices in the international permaculture movement. Co-founder and longtime editor of Permaculture magazine and co-founder of Permanent Publications, Maddy has spent decades exploring the connections between people, land, culture, and the more-than-human world. She accompanied Delvin and Grace on some of their Celtic pilgrimages while also journeying to many of these ancient sites with her late husband, Tim Harland. Together, Maddy and Tim shared a deep fascination with wild landscapes and sacred places, while their life's work championed permaculture, biodiversity, ecological regeneration, and cultural renewal. Today, Maddy continues that work through her stewardship of ancient woodland and wildflower meadows in North Devon. Her contribution brings another layer of experience and memory to the book, weaving together generations of pilgrimage and a shared devotion to the living landscapes of the Celtic realms.

Together, Delvin, Grace and Maddy offer something more than a guide to ancient stones. They bring decades of experience in ecological design, land stewardship, traditional knowledge, storytelling, and experiential learning to a journey through places that have inspired human beings for thousands of years. They describe sites with histories stretching back five thousand years or more: places where ceremony, ritual, landscape, and community have remained intertwined across the millennia.

Now, the pilgrimage continues.

In spring 2027, as Explorers of the Stones makes its way to readers, Delvin and Grace will return to every site featured in the book on one epic pilgrimage, sharing the adventure online as they go. They will bring readers along to the stones, landscapes, stories, and discoveries that inspired the book, turning its publication into another chapter of the pilgrimage itself.

This is more than a travelogue. It is an invitation to slow down, look more deeply, and rediscover ancient places as sources of wonder, inspiration, and connection.
